A detailed analysis of the test data will be carried out during the next months. A first check of the available data allows following appraisals:
- For fires above 20 – 30 MW, commonly used ventilation systems were not effective enough. As the fire might grow within few minutes up to a serious size, evacuation of people may become impossible.
- During fires greater than 20 – 30 MW high temperatures and radiant heat
occur to an even much larger extend that escaping or a access of the fire brigade is hardly possible.
Without water mist system, it would
be impossible to approach the fire
- Correctly dimensioned high pressure water mist systems have shown in tests that the fire is suppressed and that the fire spread was prevented.
Due to the big cooling effect, survivable temperatures were achieved in few meters distance to the fire.
Temperatures (Measured 5 m downstream) shows that there
would have been no fire spread to other objects
- During the fire tests it was shown that with activated water mist systems, the fire brigade was able to approach without danger the fully burning simulated truck. The fire was extinguished within few minutes.
- Fire spread was hampered while the water mist system was activated.
The fire brigade is able to extinguish the fire within minutes
